Why I subscribe to the Australia Institute
Humanity needs to draw on its intelligence if it is to keep the Earth habitable. We need to think, invent and cooperate better. That is why I support the progressive Australian think-tank, the Australia Institute.
The Australia Institute does good work on climate and energy issues, as well as a range of social and economic debates.
It could be argued that one of the greatest enemies of progress in secular, western society is the fossil fuel lobby, because it promotes ignorance. Its sole proposition is that renewable energy is unable to provide enough electricity to power our homes, industry and vehicles. This is a slur on human intelligence and as each week goes by, it is proven wrong by the growth of the solar, wind and other renewable sectors.
I should note that last year the Australia Institute published a paper critical of the solar PV rebate programme, which I was not happy with. My colleagues in the Australian PV Association published this critique in response, which should help you make up your own mind.
