Top 10 Greens Senators & advisors to follow on Twitter
Now that the Australian Greens Senators hold exclusive balance of power in the Senate, it is worth following the key movers and Tweeters in the greens world.
Many key Greens staffers and thinkers are not using Twitter, so over-rely on it at your own risk. Some of them are so old-school that they read books and newspapers and communicate primarily by telephone or in person.
This list is meant to be a useful starting point for you:
The Greens online strategy is led by @Paris_David. I think he is very Melbourne and smart.
I’ve been a @senatormilne fan since the 1980s, when she became Australia’s Erin Brokovitch, protecting the environment from the Wesley Vale Pulpmill. She is one of the world’s leading climate and energy thinkers and communicators.
@SenatorLudlam is spokesperson on all things online, so you really have to follow him. He represents WA in the Senate and is dapper, in a good way.
@larissawaters starts in the Senate today, representing Queensland. As the environmental lawyer in the Greens party room, I’m watching her closely because I think that litigation and international law are fertile climate action frontiers.
A World Heritage human. Without the encouragement of @SenatorBobBrown I would not have stuck with the Greens in the late 1990s, when it seemed like they would never break through. I love his kindness, wit, determination and intelligence.
Working with @timhollo at Greenpeace Australia Pacific was one of the highlight of my working life. He leads the energy and climate communications for the Greens, so he’s in the box seat of the #carbontax debate.
I live in Melbourne, so I get to have @AdamBandt as my local member. With the portfolio ‘Assisting on Climate and Energy’, he is effectively Senator Milne’s deputy so you really need to know what he thinks.
Working for @leerhiannon in the NSW Parliament from 2001-2003 taught me how the media works. We had a lot of fun and put dodgy political donations on the map.
After meeting @RichardDiNatale for the first time, one of Australia’s leading philanthropists told me that Richard did something no other politician had ever done, ‘When he didn’t know something, Richard said, 'I don’t know’. That gets my vote.'
The 2010 election campaign was run by @ebony_bennett and she is back in the Leaders office. That’s all you need to know.
There are many Australian NGOs, bloggers, activists, energy boffins and others who are influential in Greens networks and worth following on Twitter and in other media.
I will be continue sharing my thoughts on the networks that exist and on the networks that we need, to build the political economy of renewable energy.
Who else do you think should be followed, on a Greens influence list?
Thanks Tim. Corrected now.
