Tipping Point climate art conference - our script 'Love is a Battlefield'
On the weekend I attended an amazing conference about climate change and the arts, called Tipping Point Sydney. One of the exercises used by Tipping Point in its conferences around the world involves breaking the attendees up into small groups to write 50 word stories.
I am not pretending to speakĀ for the group but my sense of our purpose is that we wanted to speak about the climate situation as an unfolding scenario, in which we do not have the luxury of knowing the future. The climate crisis calls on us to be attentive to the moment.
This is harder and more responsible than escaping into tragedian rumination or bullish fantasies. We thought that love was a good example of the sort of tenacious, relational work that is necessary.
It was a great experience to collaboratively write our little play. My group were astute, sensitive, smart people.
I also had to act, which was more frightening that I expected it to be, while also interesting and addictive. I played HE and Laura Scrivano played SHE. Laura is a theater and film producer and writer, which was a little intimidating.
This here is my group’s contribution, laid out in script format courtesy of the wonderful, free Celtx software.
