Hepburn Wind community wind farm generation begins
Hepburn Wind, Australia’s 1st community-owned wind farm, started exporting electricity to the grid at 10:20am today.
The first of our 2 x REpower 2.05 MW turbines was commissioned at 10:20am, with the second up and running several hours later.
More than 1700 people have invested almost $9m to make this possible.
Today also saw a great article published about Hepburn Wind in Recharge, the international renewables newspaper and website.
While the climate denialists are sending death threats and the renewables doubters are complaining and the polluters are saying NO to climate action, one little community has done something profound.
We will have some negative complaints about wind ‘turbine sickness’, but overall, the feedback is positive. We have messages of support already coming our way, including a Tweet from Victorian Labor MLC Gavin Jennings.
Congratulations to everyone who has been involved, especially the hard-working staff!
Here is a good ABC story about the project.
Thank you, Deb.
